1st Annual Higher Education Forum Convention: 6 March, 2010

The 1st Annual Convention of the Higher Education Forum (HEF) will take place on 6 March, 2010, at the Prin. L.N. Weilingkar Institute of Management Development and Research, Lakhamshi Napoo Road, Near Matunga, Mumbai 400 019. The theme of this year's event is Towards Excellence in Higher Education. The broad objective of the HEF is to help transform higher education in India as one of the best in the world.

"Higher education" indicates any stream of education after 12th standard (i.e., graduation onward to doctoral programme, technical areas like engineering, professional courses including management education, among others). It also includes all types of vocational educational programmes in India after 12th standard.

The convention will include a number of strategic sessions:

"This convention brings together academia and industry to debate critical issues in higher education in India," noted Vasudha Narayanan, Vice President, Westat India Social Sciences. "The Skills Gap Report, which will be released at this convention, marks an important milestone for the debate by providing an objective measure of the gap between expectations and performance of new MBAs. This is, of course, the first and most important step in correcting the gap." The Skills Gap Survey was co-sponsored by the Higher Education Forum, 1SOS (a Mumbai-based consulting firm), and Westat India.
